About UsWe are a 501(c) 3 nonprofit organization founded in 2007 in Norcross, Georgia. We offer charitable services, namely, promoting public awareness of historical preservation and social welfare through writings and other communication means. The Norcross History Center ™ envisions creating a fully-operational museum in the city of Norcross with ever-expanding, rotating exhibits to serve as a repository of oral histories, photos, documents, letters, artifacts, and memorabilia related to the town's developmental history. Future plans include housing a Reading Room available by appointment to selective researchers. Contributions to The Norcross History Center ™ are welcomed. Please see our Patrons and Sponsors Page. The Norcross History Center ™ is a member of The American Association of Small Museums; the Society of Georgia Archivists; and the Georgia Archives Historical and Cultural Organizations Directory, Office of the Secretary of State. Organization BackgroundSpringing from a grassroots effort, energetic volunteers held an organizing coffee attended by representatives of local civic organizations at the Norcross Community and Cultural Arts Center in March, 2007. After holding a fundraiser and screening Mutant, a sci-fi movie filmed in Norcross in the 1980s, volunteers organized a Steering Committee of more than a dozen members. Demonstrating its commitment to saving and sharing the town's rich history, the Steering Committee incorporated The Norcross History Center ™ in June, 2007 and presented a Business Plan to the city with intent to lease one of the two vacant city-owned historic houses. Both The Norcross Arts Festival and the Norcross Woman's Club donated money to The Norcross History Center ™ as memorials to the late Irene Ewing Crapo, a Woman's Club president and long-time community historian. Both Crapo and the late Martha Miller Adams, also a former Woman's Club President, served on the Arts Festival Board and were founding members of The Norcross History Center ™ Board of Directors. The Norcross History Center ™ designated The Martha Miller Adams and Irene Ewing Crapo Film and Lecture Series in honor of the two distinguished local historians who co-authored the book, Norcross and gave so much of themselves to the greater good of the community. The Film Series includes an inaugural project now under way collecting oral histories. The Norcross History Center ™ Board received a small donation from the city of Norcross to help defray start-up expenses. Contributions to the Norcross History Center ™ are welcomed.
